WebXR Layers API

The WebXR Layers API allows support for various different composition layer types used in a WebXR session, improving performance and visual fidelity.

These layers are:

  • XRProjectionLayer: Fills the entire view of the observer.
  • XRQuadLayer: Takes up a flat rectangular space in the virtual environment. It is one-sided with no thickness.
  • XRCylinderLayer: Takes up a curved rectangular space in the virtual environment. It is one-sided with no thickness.
  • XREquirectLayer: Maps equirectangular coded data onto the inside of a sphere.
  • XRCubeLayer: Renders directly from a cubemap.
